A space doesn’t feel lived in until there is art on the walls. Where to buy good wall art is probably one of the most frequent questions I’m asked anytime I mention I love interior decor. I curated a list of some of my favorite places to shop for affordable (less than $150) high quality art online. I tried to intermingle some options to buy directly from independent artists along with the larger online marketplaces. Building a personal art collection takes time, but it doesn’t have to be unattainable. Wall art is a great way to tell a story through your space.

1. Christina Martinez

Keep Going and Keep Growing by Christina Martinez

My own home would not feel complete without at least one piece of art from Christina Martinez. Her pieces combine contemporary art with touches of self-exploration and love. The emphasis on community, womanhood, and her Black and Mexican heritage shines through in her bold works.

2. UzoArt

Blue Earrings by Uzo Njoku

I was introduced to Uzo Njoku’s art in 2020 and quickly fell in love with her unique patterns and depictions of community and modern life. Her work evokes Black joy and self-expression. Occasionally, she holds art exhibitions in NYC and DC.

    3. Artfully Walls

Green hat by Adrienne Brown – David

Artfully Walls is the more upscale, curated version of Society6. It’s an excellent place to discover a wide variety of art for every style. The prints are of high quality, and the shopping experience is immersive. They offer a cool visual search option, allowing you to browse art based on your preferred style.

    4. The Poster Club

The Line No. 7 by Rebecca Hein

The Poster Club is an online art retailer with ties to Copenhagen and Scandinavia. It’s the perfect place to find minimalist, simple pieces that combine neutrals and bold colors. They offer a curated selection of art prints from hand picked designers.

    5. Tacit

Give Her Grace by Anna-May Moir

Tacit is easily one of my favorite places to browse and has a great origin story. It was started to address gender disparity by highlighting women artists. They offer a lot of exclusive pieces and provide a fun browsing experience for beautiful, unique art. Tacit features a mix of high and low priced options.

    6. Minted

    Watch Out by Megan Zang

Minted has a good collection of wall art to choose from, including some options from independent artists. Their pieces would be a great place to start if you want to build a gallery wall. Additionally, they offer framing options, which is convenient.

    7. BetterShared

Cityscape with Neem Trees no. 7 by Khalid Abdalrahman

BetterShared is a curated platform showcasing African artists from across the diaspora. It was founded by Swakara Atwell-Bennett, who aimed to address the underrepresentation of African and Caribbean artists in the art world.

    8. Etsy

    Abstract Painting by Victori Atelier

Etsy is the go-to marketplace to buy directly from small businesses. With numerous options for wall art, I will do a separate post breaking down my favorite sellers on Etsy. Browsing the website for art feels endless and overwhelming, but there are lots of good pieces if you know where to look.

    9. Tatyana Alanis

    Magnolia Giclee by Tatyana Alanis

Tatyana Alanis is an illustrator based in Fort Worth, Texas, whose style incorporates nostalgia and everyday life. There’s something relatable and comforting about her artwork.
